Often all Punekars know of the contributions of Pune’s Engineers and Builders to the city are their names, at best mentioned on a bridge or building’s inauguration plate. In this workshop and open house we aim to uncover the stories hidden behind the names.

Who were Pune’s eminent engineers and contractors? How did they influence the way Pune city has come to be? What projects were they associated with? And what was it like to run a construction site 50 or even 100 years ago?

All city professionals active before the 1990s and their descendants are invited to share lived experiences and family lore in the workshop. The participants will engage with a photo exhibition, archival records, and old maps of the city to recollect memories. All others interested are invited to the open house.

Workshop Outcome:
  • Social media posts spotlighting Pune’s engineers and contractors
  • Published articles on academic and news platforms
  • Recordings preserved in Pune Architectural History Archive (PAHA)
